Obituary

Retired Boston Firefighter, John "Al" Feeney, a 32 year resident of Everett and formerly of Charlestown, died on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose following a brief illness. He was 68 years old.

Al was born in Boston on April 25, 1941. He grew up in Charlestown and attend St. Catherine's Grammer School and graduated high school in Boston. Al joined the Boston Fire Department on January 18, 1976. He was first assigned to Engine Company 50 in Charlestown and transferred to Engine Company 22 in the South End of Boston on January 29, 1969. He retired on July 2, 1985 after 18 years of serving the City of Boston. He was a member of The Boston Firefighters Union Local # 718.

Al is the loving husband of 39 years to Noreen (Butler) Feeney. He is the devoted father of Kim Currie and her husband Brian of Everett, Jack Feeney and his wife Jill of Dracut and Patrick Feeney and his friend Elizabeth of Everett. He is the loving grandfather of Brendan, Caitlin and Meghan Currie and Jack Feeney. He is the beloved son of Mary (McCreavan) Feeney and the late John Feeney. He is the beloved brother of Mary Miele, Patty Feeney, James Feeney, Danny Feeney, Kathleen Boutwell, Michael Fenney and the late retired Boston Firefighter William G. Feeney.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Al's Funeral on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Visiting hours are on Friday, January 22, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m.
