Jeremiah J. “Jere” MurphyJeremiah J. “Jere” Murphy, 81, of Plymouth and St. Petersburg FL, formerly of Newton, died Sunday Sept 21, 2003 at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth.Born in Boston he graduated from Newton High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army with the 605th Anti Aircraft Gun Battalion, and participated in the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart. Mr. Murphy worked with his father in his appliance repair business for several years, and later worked as a salesman for Jordan Marsh Co. in Downtown Crossing retiring after 25 years.Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife of 59 years Alice (Doherty) Murphy, his son Glenn E. Murphy and his wife Patricia Cashen of Newton, his granddaughter Kerry Cashen Murphy and his sister Kathleen MacPhee of Wellesley. He was the brother of the late Mary J. Lucas, John P. Murphy, D. Edward Murphy, Donald P. Murphy and Margaret M. Hunt.Relatives and friends will gather at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Friday Sept. 26, at 9 AM and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church Newton Centre at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Thurs from 4-8 PM. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Newton Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc. 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701
