Mary L. Vaughan, 91

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Mary L. (Rathbun) Vaughan, 91, a lifelong resident of Mansfield passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Monday January 18, 2010 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. She was the beloved wife of the late James F. Vaughan who died on January 14, 1992. Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan were wed on September 13, 1947.
Born in Mansfield on July 30, 1918 she was a dear daughter of the late Clifford A. and Mary A. (Currivan) Rathbun.
Mary grew up and was educated in Mansfield and was a 1936 graduate of Mansfield High School.
Mrs. Vaughn was a retired Exporter having worked for the Foxboro Co. in Foxboro for many years prior to retiring.
A lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Mary was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s Club. Her other community involvements included being the former president of the Mansfield Visiting Nurses Association and a member of the Mansfield Friends of the Library.
Mary enjoyed the many wonderful times spent with her adoring family and also the special friendships she made that lasted a lifetime.
She is survived by her devoted children Kathleen V. Scheufele and her husband William of Duxbury, James F. Vaughan, Jr. and his wife Karen of Mansfield and John Vaughan and his wife Kathleen of Pepperell. She was the dear sister of Helen Rogers of Manchester, CT and late Theresa Godfrey. Mrs. Vaughan is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Jessica S. Ward and her husband Jake of Washington, DC and Molly E. Vaughan, Emily K. Vaughan and Julia A. Vaughan all of Pepperell. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday January 23rd at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday January 22nd from 4-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Mary’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to St. Mary’s Church Building Fund 330 Pratt St. Mansfield, MA 02048.
