New Bedford – John Paul Zager, age 82- died on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital. John was the husband of Marie S.J. (Lafrance) Zager of New Bedford. He was the father of Jeanne, wife of Howard Currin of Fairhaven, Jeannette, wife of Donald Minner of Delaware, Jeremy, husband of Sandy Zager Freetown, Jackie, wife of Pat Hughes of New Bedford and Jeanine Zager of Pinelas Park, Fla. John was the brother of Pat Vincent of Florida, Shirley Dube and Marie, wife of Al Hetu and brother of the late Louise Blanchette, Delores Williams and Marsha Bergeron. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Zager was a son of the late Max B. and Rose Ann (Johnson) Zager. He was born in Rockland, ME. and lived in this area for 53 years. Mr. Zager worked at Brittney Dye for many years. John was a Eucharistic Minister both at St. Luke’s Hospital and St. Anne’s Church. Mr Zager was also a recipient of a Marion Medal and a veteran of the U.S.Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Zager’s funeral will be Thursday from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 9 A.M. with a Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church, on County St., New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery #2.
