Thomas West 62, of Norton formerly of Brockton and Jamaica Plain passed away on Saturday January 16, 2010 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
Born in Belle Glade, Florida on June 23, 1947 he was a son of the late Thomas and Annie (Jones) Watkins.
Thomas grew up in the Del Ray Beach and Lake Worth areas of Florida. He was educated in Florida schools and was a graduate of Del Ray Beach High School.
For the past 12 years he was employed in the cooking staff at Wheaton College in Norton and previously had worked in the same capacities at Stonehill College in Easton.
Tom moved to Massachusetts in the late 1970’s. For the past 3 years he had resided in Norton and previously made his home in Brockton for over 15 years and also lived for several years in Jamaica Plain.
Thomas enjoyed the simple pleasures of spending time at home. He was a true friend and received much pleasure when helping others. He especially enjoyed trips to visit with friends in Maine and the Berkshires.
He is survived by his devoted partner of 23 years, John G. Calvert of Norton, his dear aunt Theodosia West of Del Ray Beach, Florida, his loving cousin Theodosia Williams of Lake Worth, Florida, the Calvert family, his cherished friends, including Nikki, Barbara, Wendy, Ginny, Carol and friends in the Wheaton College Community.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend services in celebration of Thomas’s life to be held on Saturday January 23rd at 4:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
Visitation will be held prior to services on Saturday beginning at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. West’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
