New Bedford MA.- Joseph C. Alves age 80, died January 15, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital. Joseph was the husband of the late Lucy (Elenterio) Alves. He was loving father of Claudia and her husband Luis Amaral of New Bedford. Joe was a loving grandfather of Gregory Joseph Amaral and Justin Louis Amaral. Joe was the brother of Deolinda daCosta of New Bedford, and the late Rosa Leal, Maria dos Anjos Alves Quadros, Manuel Alves, Simon Alves Correira Oliveira, Maria da Conceicao and Deolinda Alves. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Alves was a son of the late Francisca de Jesus (Correira) and Simon Alves. He was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal. Joe lived in this area since 1961. He was employed at Morse Cutting Tools doing various jobs until Morse closed. Joe was a Former Past President / Founder of the Clube Uniao Faialense, Member of Local 277 of the United Electrical & Machine Workers Union of America (U.E.)
Mr. Alves’ Funeral will be Wednesday, from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 9 A.M. with a Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church, on County St. New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, from 5 to 8 P.M. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery.
