Obituary

Whalen, Francis “Frank” J. (BFD Ret.) of Jamaica Plain, summer resident of Dennisport, formerly of Dorchester, January 15, 2010. For 44 years beloved husband of Dympna “Dee” (Boyd). Dear brother of Teresa M. Meehan and her late husband Michael J. of Townsend and Mary L. Whalen of Dorchester. Cherished uncle of Stephen M. Meehan of Townsend, Judith M. Meehan Deutsch of New York, NY, Joseph C. Meehan of Framingham, Michael P. Meehan of Boston, David D. Meehan of Townsend and Kathleen Meehan Goreham of Bedford, NH. Also survived by 4 grandnieces and 3 grandnephews. Brother in law of June Boyd of Somerville. He was a member of the first graduating class of St Ambrose School in 1944, a graduate of Boston College High School in 1948 and Boston College Class of 1952 and a US Army Korean War Veteran. His love for Boston sports, the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins and BC Eagles were only eclipsed by the enjoyment of his days on the Cape. Francis retired from the Boston Fire Dept Alarm Division as a Senior Alarm Operator after 35 years without a single sick day and was still an active member of the Union local 718. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, January 19, 4-8 PM at the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home, 10 Tower St., Jamaica Plain (opposite the Forest Hills MBTA station). Funeral Wednesday, January 20, beginning at the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM at the Sacred Heart Church in Roslindale. Frank will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury, following the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s memory may be made to The Italian Home for Children 1125 Centre Street Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
