Miller, of Brockton, September 19, 2003, Violet I. “Vie” (Gallagher) Miller, 88 years. Wife of the late Gordon W. “Bud” Miller, retired BFD, mother of Wayne K. Miller and his wife Karen of Sandwich.

Funeral Service in the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday at 10am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Visiting Hours Wednesday 4-8pm. Donations in Vie’s name may be made to Brockton Firefighters Local 144, PO Box 868, Brockton, MA 02303.

Obituary Information

Violet “Vie” (Gallagher) Miller, a longtime resident of Brockton, died on September 19th at the Cape Cod Rehabilitation Center after a prolonged illness. She was 88 years old.

She was the widow of the late Gordon W. Miller, a 31 year veteran of the Brockton Fire Department. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary shortly before he passed on in 1988.

Mrs. Miller was born in Nictaux Falls, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late William E. and Anne K. (Burns) Gallagher. The family moved to the United States and settled in Brockton when she was six years old. She was a member of the Brockton High School class of 1934.

Mrs. Miller spent 39 years in the shoe industry as a fancy stitcher, having worked for many years for the George E. Keith Company and the Knapp Brothers Company before retiring in 1971.

She was an avid collector of antique glass, specializing in Depression glass, and known by many dealers and collectors around the country. She was a former member of the Weymouth Depression Club.

She is survived by her son Wayne K. Miller of Sandwich, a grand daughter Elizabeth and great grand daughter Sarah of Chestnut Hill, a nephew Richard Gallagher of Hanson, and a number of other nieces and nephews in the greater Brockton area.

Mrs. Miller was the sister of the late Irvin E. Gallagher and Gordon R. Gallagher both of Brockton and Earl C. Gallagher of California.

She also leaves three step brothers, Adrian Besse of Somerset, Donald Besse and Reginald Besse, both of Ft. Myers, Florida and a step sister Jackalene Silva of New Bedford.

She will be buried beside her husband at Melrose Cemetery Thursday after a Funeral Service in the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton at 10am.
