Obituary

EAST TAUNTON - Sylvina “Syl” Tavares, a lifelong Taunton resident, died in Boston on Jan. 9, 2010, following a period of failing health.
Born in Taunton on June 8, 1950, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Fontes) Tavares, she was raised and educated in Taunton.
A graduate of Taunton High School, she was later employed by the Sysco Corporation in Norton for over 23 years.
Syl was fond of hot air balloons, and was known for her habit of venturing into the early dawn to watch them.
She also loved sitting by the ocean, and watching airplanes take off.
Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy Ambrozio and Louise Silvia of Taunton, and Shirley Nicolan of E. Taunton; four brothers, Joseph Tavares and his wife Dianne, Edward Tavares and his wife Valerie, all of Taunton, William Tavares of Buzzards Bay, James Tavares and his wife Charlene of Fairhaven; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Richard Tavares and Mary-Jane Dukacz.
Funeral services will be held at the Silva Funeral home, 80 Broadway, Taunton, on Thursday, Jan. 14th at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 13th from 4 to 6 p.m.
