Obituary

Mr. Donald Lawrence Thompson, a resident of Andover for many years and beloved husband of the late Lillian M. (Clay) Thompson, died at the Winchester Hospital in Winchester, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, January 5, 2010. He was 79 years old.
Born in Melrose, Massachusetts, he was the beloved son of the late Henry I. and Catherine (LeBlanc) Thompson. Donald was a US Navy veteran, entering the service at Boston, Massachusetts, on October 14, 1947 and received his honorable discharge at Philadelphia on October 16, 1950. While in the military, Mr. Thompson worked as a Communications Technician and held the rank of third class. In civilian life, Donald worked for many years for the US Postal Service in Andover as a clerk. He had been a member of the Foundation for Archaeological Research (AFAR).
He will be sorely missed by five children; Sharon Ring of Auburn, NH, Scott and his wife Dee Thompson of Ames, Iowa, Dawn and her husband Bob Bachler of Franklin, New Hampshire, Evelyn and her husband Charlie Reardon of Plaistow, New Hampshire and Sandie and her husband Steve Lindquist of Londonderry, NH, one sister; Ann Monsivais of Portland, Maine, one brother; Jack Thompson of Florida, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, Saturday, January 9, 2010, from 2 to 6 PM. Burial will be private.
