Obituary


Evelyn G. (Smith) Welch 96 years, of South Easton formerly of Brockton, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 after a brief illness. She was the widow of the Raymond F. Welch. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Jane (Ahern) Smith. Evelyn was a graduate of the former St. Patrick’s Grammar and High Schools and also graduated from the former Maltby and Williams Secretarial Schools. She had lived most of her life in Brockton and over the past 13 years had resided in South Easton.
Evelyn was an employee of the City of Brockton Veterans Services Office and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Transitional Assistance. She was a member of the AARP, the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association, the Twentieth Century Catholic Club, and a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Welch of South Easton and a son, Edward Welch and his wife Michelle of Brockton. She is also survived by three grandchildren Jennifer Reigner and her husband Daniel of Chicopee; Matthew Welch of Westbrook, Maine and Kimberly Roy and her husband Patrick of Blackstone, Mass. She is also survived by a great grandson, Jackson Reigner and a niece Mary DelSordo of Middleboro.
She was pre-deceased by her sisters and brothers, Mary Smith, Bernard Smith, Margaret DelSordo, Thomas Smith, and Helen Smith; and a niece Ann Visconti.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday at 8am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Brockton at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday 3-7 pm.
