ATTERBURY, Ruth (Shackleford), 77, of Louisville, died peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2009, with family members by her side.
Mrs. Atterbury was born and raised in Harlan County. She moved to Louisville as a young adult where she met her husband, Leslie Henry Atterbury, who preceded her in death. Ruth was very active in the community, supporting the endeavors of her children and grandchildren, youth sports, and church functions. Ruth was a member of the Eastern Star Valley Chapter # 65 where she was a Past Worthy Matron. She was the Past Mother Advisor of the Valley #8 Order of Rainbow for Girls, a former member of the Legion of Honor Legionettes, and a member of Hillsdale Baptist Church. Ruth was well known with many friends and never met a stranger. She had fond memories of the people she came in contact with while working at the Prairie Village Center bakery. Ruth’s witty, sometimes stinging, but always loving candor will be dearly missed.
She is survived by: her children, Dahl Atterbury, Peggy Shackelford, Teresa Munson, Paul Atterbury, and Jennifer Atterbury; and, her grandchildren, Angela Shackelford, Jennifer Munson, Lesley Munson, Joe Atterbury, and Jeffrey Atterbury.She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and loved ones, including: her special niece Bobbie Lunsford; her chosen daughter, Patty Cole; and, her chosen granddaughter, Brittany Cole.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at Baptist East Hospital.

Ruth’s service will be 10am Monday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday 1-5pm and Sunday 1-6pm at the funeral home.
