Mrs. Mary E. Doherty, of Woburn formerly of Winchester, passed away December 30th, at the Winchester Hospital following a short illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Neal E. Doherty Jr. Born in Woburn she was the daughter of the late James and Bridget (Keaney) Doherty.
For the past six years Mary was a resident of the Country Club Heights in Woburn where she was very active and made many wonderful friendships. Mary was a United States Coast Guard Veteran of WWII and honorably served from 1943 to 1945. She lived the majority of her life in Winchester where she worked for several years at the Winchester Public Library. She enjoyed following politics and served as the Chairperson of the Winchester Democratic Committee. She was also a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Winchester for many years.
Mary was mostly devoted to her loving family and cherished spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her late husband and parents, Mary is predeceased by her sisters, the late Ellen Beauchamp and Rosalie Bonaventure, and brothers, the late Lawrence and Joseph Cullen. She is survived by her children; Neal E. Doherty III and his wife Geri of Duxbury, Denise Kelley and her husband Thomas of Wellesley, Jerome Doherty and his wife Patrice of Woodstock, VT. She was the loving grandmother of Christopher, Bryan and Kyle Doherty, Deirdre and T.J. Kelley, Connor, Megan, and Anna Doherty. She is also survived by her loving great grandson, Mackenzie Kelley. She is further survived by her sister, Josephine Smith of California.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Monday, January 4th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 3 thru 7 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
