Lucile Stephens Yeomans, 87, of Tifton died Thursday, December 31, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010, in Mount Paron Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Alapaha. Rev. Terrell Roberts will officiate with burial to follow. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Tommy Lindsey, Dr. Marcus Roberts, Guy Cox, Ricky Seabrooks, Shirley Baker and June Kramer will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 1, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Yeomans was born on October 18, 1922 in Berrien County and was the daughter of John Owens Stephens and Stella Railey Stephens, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Columbus Yeomans, Jr. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was a seamstress and caretaker all of her life and was also a swimming and golf instructor. She loved and cared for animals and always cared for the unfortunate.
Mrs. Yeomans is survived by one son, Ricky D. Yeomans of Zebulon, North Carolina; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jim Sumner of North Carolina; two brothers and one sister-in-law, J. O. Stephens of Plattsville, Alabama and Buddy and Jackie Stephens of Dallas, Texas; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mamie Barfield of Tifton, Zelma and Earl Ellis of Tifton and Ida and Charlie Luke of Nashville; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
