Obituary

LYNN: Ellen F. Elwell, resident at The Atlantic Rest Home, 60 Atlantic Street, Lynn, and formerly of Deveaux House, 117 Railroad Avenue in Hamilton, and 1 Taylor Street, Gloucester, died after being struck by an automobile outside her residence on Friday, December 25, 2009.
Born in Gloucester on September 11, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Theresa E. (Amero) and Henry C. Elwell. She grew up and attended school in Rockport, moving to Gloucester in 1962 where she lived with her mother and grandmother until 1997.
Ellen was a sweet and innocent soul, taking pleasure and delight in simple everyday things. She was loved by all who knew her – family, friends, and her loving caregivers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched, as she brought a tremendous amount of joy, love, and laughter to all.
In spite of an almost lifelong battle with schizophrenia, she never let it get in the way of her thoughtfulness, generosity and spirit. She was always thinking of others, always remembering birthdays with a card and a gift that she would tell you about weeks ahead of time with a phone call.
She enjoyed knitting scarves and hats for her relatives and friends, playing bingo at Rainbow House where she won prizes that she loved to give away, flower gardening, Elvis Presley music, shopping trips with her sister, singing to music played on the radio, and talking on the phone with her beloved nephew, Bernie.
She leaves her sister, Lucille M., wife of Bernard Amero, her nephew, M. Bernard Amero, III, and his partner, Miriam Figueroa, of Gloucester, her aunt, Katherine Langley, of Danvers, and uncle, Richard Langley, of Gloucester, aunt Myra, wife of Ewan, of Sanford, FL, cousins Adrianne Bradstreet, of Danvers, Peggy Meade, of Fontana, CA, Eugene O’Neil of Lake Mary, FL, Timothy O’Neil of Whitefield, NH, and Robert Nickerson, of Bangor, Maine.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
