Obituary

Margaret Gannaway Telford, 91, Clarksville, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Clarksville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Reverand Dr. David Forney officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service Saturday at the church.

She was born in Nesbit, Mississippi on February 8, 1918, daughter of James Joyner Gannaway and Dorothy Yokley Gannaway and the granddaughter of the Reverand Isaac N. Yokley, a Presbyterian minister. Her family represented pioneer stock in the settlement of the state of Mississippi.
She graduated from Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennesseee and taught public school at Lake Cormorant, Mississippi. She later served her country in the Women's Army Corps during World War II where she met her husband, John. She then became a career army wife. She taught kindergarten at First Presbyterian Church and Burns L. Darden Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Retired Major John Chamberlin Telford of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
She is survived by three sons; John Chamberlin Telford, Jr (wife Nancy) of Clarksville, TN; James Monroe Telford of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Clair Joyner Telford (wife Terrie) of Fayetteville, TN. In addition she has three grandchildren; Clair Joyner Telford, Jr., John Wyatt Telford and Katherine Gannaway Telford.
