Francis R. “Zeb” Alves, 71, of Dartmouth, formerly of Westport died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at home. He was the husband of Arline (Cabral) Alves, they were married for 49 years.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Manuel and Anna (Farias) Alves, he had lived in Westport from 1973 - 2007 when he moved to Dartmouth. Prior to retirement in 2005, he was a machine operator at Harodite Finishing in Dighton, where he was the former president of the AFLCIO union. He also worked part time at Super Wal-Mart as a greeter. Mr. Alves enjoyed traveling, taking his wife shopping, watching cowboy and mafia movies and having a good laugh.
Including his wife, survivors include 3 sons: Randall Alves and his wife Karen of Fall River, Chad Alves and his wife Lisa of Westport and Shawn Alves and his wife Melinda of Fall River; 2 brothers: Alfred Alves of FL and Gerald Alves of FL; 2 sisters: Elaine Soares of Westport and Doris Carpenter of Fall River; granddaughters: Krystle and Kristen Alves and several other grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Liz; several nieces and nephews; and Jackie.
He was father of the late Francis A. Alves and brother of the late Edward Alves.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, January 4, 2009 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Sunday 5 – 8 P.M.
Interment in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton, RI.
