Dorothy J. Olson, 99, of Manchester, NH died December 27, 2009 at Hanover Hill
Health Care Center after a period of declining health.
She was born in Huntington, NY October 25, 1910 to Walter and Myretta (Franck) James. She graduated from NY State Teachers College in Albany, NY. She lived in White Plains, NY most of her life and had been a resident of Hillcrest Terrace in Manchester the past 15 years.
She was a retired schoolteacher and taught second grade in the Greenburgh, NY school district for many years. She was currently a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Manchester, NH and had been a member of St. Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church in Elmsford, NY for many years.
Dorothy was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, traveling, and volunteering at her church. She especially loved spending time with her family.
She leaves her two daughters, Ruth A. Thrall of Pittsfield, NH, and Janet O. Wakefield of Gouverneur, NY; five grandchildren, Carolyn T. Larson of Londonderry, NH, Joanne E. Shurbert of Alton Bay, NH, Christopher B. Wakefield of Santa Fe, NM, Sandra T. Found of Pittsfield, NH and Anne Wakefield-Bittick of Cottonwood, AZ; five great grandchildren, Nathan Larson, Katelynn Larson, Brita Larson, Anna Larson and Connor Bittick; two brothers, Arthur E. James of Tinton Falls, NJ and Kenneth W. James of Bloomfield, NJ; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore L. Olson who died in 1964, and by a sister, Sister Edith James.
A memorial service will take place at Hillcrest Terrace, Manchester, NH on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 5 p.m.. Rev. Grace P. Burson will officiate.
