Joseph D. "Larry" Lavoie, age 80, a longtime resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 at a local healthcare facility in Lowell following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Claire C. (Dumais) Lavoie with whom he celebrated a 58th wedding anniversary in June.
Larry was born in Lowell on April 19, 1929, a son of the late Armand and Aldea (Chapdelaine) Lavoie. He was a communicant of the former Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Parish in Lowell and more recently of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish.
Prior to his retirement, Larry was a self employed carpenter in the Lowell area for many years and enjoyed it as a hobby in his spare time. He also loved taking trips to Canada.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Normand and Ginette Lavoie of Merrimack, MA, Ronald and Jane Lavoie of Dracut, Marc Lavoie of Nashua, Suzanne and Robert Boulanger of Tyngsboro and Dianne and Michael Roy of Lowell; a dear niece, Claire Stecchi of Lowell; ten grandchildren, Brad, Jacque, Craig, Jonathan, Daniel, Danielle, Michelle, Eric, Lisa and Claude; also several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Maurice Lavoie.
Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Sunday, Dec. 27 from 3 to 7pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning at 11 o'clock at Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish (Ste. Therese Church) Dracut. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
