Maura (Sheerin) Berry, 82, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2009 after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Charles J. Berry.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Julia (Sullivan) Sheerin. Maura was a graduate of Holy Family High School and St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1948. She worked as a public health registered nurse and was a longtime homemaker.
She cherished her husband Charles, who predeceased her on October 4, 2009. They were married and devoted to each other for 59 years. She loved her family, her friends and neighbors.
Maura is survived by two children, James Berry of Framingham and Maureen Costa and her husband Gilbert of Acushnet; a brother, James Sheerin of New Bedford; three grandchildren, Attorney Matthew Costa of Dartmouth, and Andrew and Melissa Costa of New Bedford; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Thomas Sheerin of South Dartmouth.
In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated. A private burial ceremony will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery. A Memorial Mass to celebrate the life of Maura and her husband Charles will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 10 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth. Visiting hours are omitted.
