Obituary

Brockton - Robert G. Jordan 79 a 40 year resident of Brockton, died Saturday December 19 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Frances M. (Cerci) Jordan.

Born and raised in Whitman he was the son of the late Philip B. and E. Mable (Edmed) Jordan and step son of the late Effie Jordan. He was a graduate of Whitman High School Class of 1949 and was also a member of the Whitman Town League football team. He later attended the University of Massachusetts.

He was a four year veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War, and a lifelong member of the Whitman VFW where he spent many enjoyable times with his high school buddies.

Robert was an avid reader and enjoyed watching old westerns and the history channel. He loved dancing with his wife and never missed an opportunity to attend any and all functions of his many grandchildren.

He was a passionate and talented golfer and a member of the former Wedgewood Country Club, which is now the White Pines Country Club; on his days off from golf he enjoyed playing cards with his fellow club members.

He is survived by his step children, Lt. Robert Sergio of the Brockton Police Department of Bridgewater, Lorraine Johnson of N. Easton, Laurie (Sergio) Sweeney and her husband Frank of Raynham, his mother-in-law Teresa Cerci, his son-in-law Samuel Johnson of Stoughton, his sisters Lucy Gilli of Carver and Phyllis Keating of Brockton, his sister-in-law Louise Stratoti and her husband Vincent of Bridgewater and his grandchildren Melanie Covel, Michelle Thurston, Michael and Courtney Johnson, and Gino Sergio as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late David Edmed and Rita Sargo.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday December 23 at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday December 22 from 4-8 PM. Donations in his name may be made to Caritas Home Care, 3 Edgewater Drive Norwood, MA 02062.
