Obituary

Irving Ehrenwald, age 91, a resident of Winthrop for 58 years, passed away Saturday December 19, 2009 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Rosalie Schwartz Ehrenwald for 68 beautiful years and a very devoted father of Vivian Kruger and her husband Jack, Sharon Scobert and her companion Phil Rosenblatt, Jeffrey Ehrenwald and his wife Seri, Ben Gordon and his wife Suzanne, and the late Michael Gordon and his late wife Nancy. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Irving worked as a sheet metal worker in the Boston Naval Shipyard and continued his career in the shipbuilding industry and retired as a foreman from Bethlehem Steel Shipyard of East Boston.

Irving was born and raised in New York City. He participated in track and field winning many medals in the high jump for the New York Boys Club. Irving was a member of the Winthrop Jewish Community Center and served as their assistant basketball coach for many years. He also coached Winthrop little league. He was voted as “Man of the Year” for the Winthrop Jewish Community Center.

Irving enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. He organized a model airplane club for underprivileged children. Irving was a great model train collector and enthusiast. He belonged to the New England Model Train Collectors Association. He enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren. Irving and Rosalie participated in the Jewish Family Services by opening their home to many foster children. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Celtics, Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

He was loved and respected and will be greatly missed.

Services at the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave., (Cary Sq.) Chelsea on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 11:00am . Interment will follow at the Chebra Kadisha of Chelsea Cemetery in Everett. In lieu of flowers , donations in Irving’s memory to your favorite charity.
