Elinor Sue Anderson Norris, 73, passed away and went to be with her Lord in heaven, Friday, December 18, 2009, at Gateway Hospital of a stroke.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today at Neal-Tarpley Chapel with Dr. Roger Freeman and Dr. John Laida officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service today at the funeral home at the funeral home.
Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born August 14, 1936 in Montgomery County, daughter of the late John M. Anderson, Sr. and Eva Stone Anderson.
Elinor began her banking career at Northern Bank of Tennessee in Clarksville in 1954 as Executive Secretary for Richard Hawkins. She progressed in the banking industry to Assistant Vice President, Vice President, and finally as Vice President and Trust Officer. She transferred to First American in Nashville, Tennessee and retired early in 1995. She was a past charter member and president of the National Association of Banking Women where she wrote and printed a cookbook. She was also a cable member of the Professional Business Woman's Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church and member of Lib Laida's Sunday School Class as well as a past member of the adult choir. Elinor was a past Girl Scout Volunteer, United Way Volunteer and M.S. Volunteer.
Survivors include her husband of fifty five years, James A. Norris; three daughters, Harriett Norris McCutchen (Mark), Suzanne Norris Ulm (Mark), and Elinor Leanne Norris, all of Clarksville; a brother, John M. Anderson (Faye), Birmingham, AL; a sister Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Fox (Don), Clarksville; and seven grandchildren, Jacob Norris McCutchen, Elinor Sue McCutchen, Lauren Elizabeth Ulm, David Matthew Ulm, Rachel Lea Whittinghill, Phillip Allen Whittinghill, III, and Jacob James Whittinghill.
Pallbearers will be Ronny Powers, Dotson Guinn, Sammy Stuard, Tom Gresham, Jake McCutchen, David Ulm, and Phillip A. Whittinghill, Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be James "Shep" Shepherd.
