Obituary

BELLINGHAM—Alfred G. Annis 80, a resident of Bellingham for 16 years, and a former longtime Wrentham resident, died Thursday December 17, 2009 at Milford Regional Medical Center, following an extended period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Joyce K. (Wilson) Annis.
Born in Barre, Vermont, August 24, 1929 a son of the late William A. and Evelyne C. (Martin) Annis, he was raised and educated in Vermont. As a young man, he worked as a herdsman in Vermont, and in Massachusetts.
He eventually worked in a foundry and started his own cement finishing business.
Well known in the greater Wrentham area, he also became a home builder and later in life worked in the real estate business as a broker.
He served in the United States Army during World WarII, and again in Korea. He attained the rank of Pfc., and awarded the World WarII Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupational Medal (Japan).
He was a member of the American Legion Post in Wrentham, and was a former member of The Original Congregational Church in Wrentham, the United Chamber of Commerce and Excelsior Lodge AF & AM in Franklin.
He enjoyed travel, and collected estate and antique jewelry.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, George A. Annis and his wife Pattie of Calais, Vermont, James A. Annis of Quincy and Thomas W. Annis of Wrentham, two daughters Sheila A. Annis of Millis, and Pearl Ruth Gottberg and her husband Jerry of Franklin, two brothers Duane Thomas Annis and his wife Joan of Pensacola, Florida, Robert E. Annis of Amenia, New York, three sisters Avis L. Spicer, Louise Annis, and Lorraine Annis all of Rutland, Vermont and two step daughters Luann Ripp and her husband Bill of Long Island, New York and Betty Bluestein and her husband Allen of Franklin. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 2 step granddaughters, 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Joyce Ellen Zakaluzny, and the brother of the late William Anthony Annis Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Tuesday December 22nd, at 1:00PM in the Franklin Federated Church 171 Main St. Franklin.
Private interment will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date.
