Frederick J. Coots, 86, of East Bridgewater, passed away, after a period of failing health ,Thursday, December 17th, surrounded by his family at his home.
Born in Brockton, son of the late Frederick J. and Mary ( McInerny) Coots.
He was brought up in Whitman, and was a graduate of Whitman High School, class of 1942.
He was a Sergeant in the United States Army, during WWII serving in the 31st infantry division, in the Philippine theatre; he was also a Purple Heart recipient.
He was the beloved husband of Nellie E. (Hogg) Coots. After marrying in 1946, he was employed as a milkman for Peaceful Meadows Farms for a number of years; eventually starting a business of his own, more recently he retired from Shaw’s Supermarket.
He was a past commander of the Whitman American Legion Post 22, and also an avid sportsman’s, enjoying hunting and fishing. He also had a roadside Farm Stand at his home in East Bridgewater since 1950
In addition to his wife Nellie, his is survived by his 5 sons, Frederick J. Coots of Whitman, William P. Coots of Stoughton, James M., David A. and Paul E. Coots all of East Bridgewater; also 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His services will be held on Monday December 21st at 10:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman, MA. His visiting hours will be on Sunday December 20th from 2:00-6:00.
