Obituary

Evelyn B. (Monteiro) Almeida, 84, of Dartmouth died December 17, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Armando A. Almeida.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel R. and Constance (Baptista) Monteiro, she lived in New Bedford and Dartmouth all of her life.
Mrs. Almeida was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
She was formerly employed by Aerovox for 45 years retiring as a supervisor in 1988. She also worked part-time at Wonderbowl.
Mrs. Almeida enjoyed spending time with her family, trips to Foxwoods, watching the Boston RedSox and puzzles.
She was an avid bowler first starting in the Aerovox 10 pin league in 1964. In 1980, she was appointed a director of the Massachusetts Women's Bowling Association where she also served as vice president from 1970 to 1993. She was inducted into the Southern Bristol County Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1996.
Survivors include her brother, Joseph "Billy" Monteiro and his wife Margie of West Wareham; 2 sisters, Mary Ames and Betty Ann Fermino, both of New Bedford; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her late sisters and brothers, Alice Leighton, Pauline Cardoza, Marion Barrows, Arthur, Edward, Adolph, George and Robert Monteiro.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 21st at 11 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Her family will receive guests on Monday morning from 9 - 10:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
