Obituary

Worcester—Robert W. Anderson, 87, died Thursday, December 17, 2009, at Knollwood Nursing Home after a battle with cancer.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Jean M. (Olson) Anderson; two sons, Paul R. Anderson and his wife Diane of Holden and Jon S. Anderson and his wife Janice of Worcester; 3 grandchildren, Karl of Silver Spring, MD., Sarah of Holden, and Douglas of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was born in Worcester, a son of David and Julia (Ryberg) Anderson. His brother Paul Norman and sister Beatrice Mumma predeceased him. Bob graduated from North High School and attended Worcester Junior College. He was an Ensign and pilot in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Bob owned and operated Anderson’s Market on Belmont Hill and Olson & Sundquist Market in Greendale for many years. Bob then managed Gorretti’s Supermarket in Millbury until his retirement in 1985. He was an active member of Salem Covenant Church where he sang in the choir and enjoyed caring for the church property.
Bob enjoyed vacationing at Lake Winnipesaukee, Boothbay Harbor, and Attitash with his family.

Bob’s family would like to thank the staff at both the Knollwood Nursing Home and Evercare Hospice and Palliative Care for the excellent care given to Bob and also for the love and compassion they showed him.

Memorial calling hours for Bob will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln Street, Sunday, Dec. 20, from 4-7 p.m. The Memorial Service will be held at Salem Covenant Church, 215 E. Mountain Street, Monday, Dec. 21, at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to Salem Covenant Church.
