TEWKSBURY - John Patrick Quinn, age 87, retired union representative in greater Boston, died Thursday, December 17, at the Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood, Florida, following an apparent heart attack. He was the husband of the late Eileen B. (Harvey) Quinn, and the late Marion (Myles) Quinn.
He was born in Somerville, March 5, 1922, a son of the late John and Anna (Murphy) Quinn, and raised in Somerville. He graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Somerville, and enlisted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Asiatic Pacific War Theater, where he received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Star Medals during his tour with the 1st Calvary.
He was employed as a Business Agent for the AFL-CIO Bakers and Confectioners Union, Boston Local, and served in the Somerville, Charlestown, and Cambridge candy manufacturing and baking businesses.
He moved to Tewkbury in 1954, and has wintered between Tewksbury, Stoneham, and Englewood, Florida, since 1978.
He was also a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge 2070.
He is survived by children, Maureen Rideout and her husband Gerald of Rotonda West, FL, John F. Quinn of Tewksbury, Kathleen Penney and her husband Raymond of Tewksbury, Brian J. Quinn and his wife Laura (Koewn) of Tewksbury, Gerald T. Quinn of San Diego, CA; step children, Barbara LoPilato of Medford, Dennis Myles and his wife Jeannette (Hurley) of Medford; son-in-law, Gregory Ho of Hawaii, who was the husband of the late Patricia (Quinn) Ho; his special friend and companion, Mary Aspell of Stoneham and Englewood, FL; sisters-in-law, Bernice Doherty of Rotonda West, FL, and Eunice Harvey of Revere; nineteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; family friends; Lucille Myles and Anthony S. LoPilato. Sr., and many nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Robert Quinn, Thomas Quinn, and Mary Viveiros; step father of the late Robert Myles; father-in-law of the late Joanne (Patch) Quinn; and brother-in-law of the late Laurence Harvey.
His Funeral Mass was held Monday, Dec. 21, in St. Dorothy's Church, Wilmington. Burial with Army Honors was held in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated.
