Obituary




Belmont-----Barbara Twombly, 95, of 334 Hurricane Road, died at the St. Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Laconia on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. She was the widow of Roscoe E. Twombly who died in 1980.
Mrs. Twombly was born June 4, 1914 in Mendon, Mass., the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Coffin) Taylor. She graduated from Peter’s High School in Southboro, Mass. and from the Worcester School of Business Science. While attending night school at the Worcester School of Business Science, she worked in the offices of Graton & Knight in Worcester, Mass.
In 1945, she married her husband, Roscoe, in Salina, Kansas where he was stationed in the U.S. Army Air Force. While in Salina, she worked at Lee Hardware Co. In 1946, she returned to Massachusetts and worked at Hodgman Rubber Co. in Framingham. In 1953, she and her husband moved to Belmont, N.H. where she was active in the Belmont PTA, acting as secretary, treasurer or president at various times. She was also active in the Odd & Even Club of the Laconia Methodist Church. She also worked at the Belknap Mill for twenty-two years and worked part-time for Seth Keller and Contigiani’s Catering before retiring. Later she was active in the Thursday Arts & Crafts Group at Sunrise Towers and served ten years as co-chairman of the Belmont Seniors, retiring in June of 1995. She was also a former twenty year member and former president, secretary and treasurer of the Belmont Friendly Club and was also a member of the Laconia AARP.
Mrs. Twombly attended the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Fred J. Twombly, and his wife, Maggie, of Belmont; two daughters, Elizabeth Austin and her husband, Gordon, of Belmont and Doris Capozzoli and her husband, Jack, of Sharon, Mass.; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Foote, of Southboro, Mass. and four nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents. Mrs. Twombly was predeceased by a daughter, Judith Geldart, and by a great grandson, Dylan Ornelas.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009 from 3:00-4:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H. followed by a memorial service at 4:00PM also at the Funeral Home.
Spring burial will be in the family lot in South Road Cemetery, Belmont.
