Obituary

William J. Desmond Jr. 87 years old, husband of the late Georgette S. (Lacouture) Desmond who died in 2001, died Wednesday morning at Wingate at Andover.
Born in Lowell on January 24, 1922, he was a son of the late William J. and Mary E. (Lynch) Desmond Sr. Mr. Desmond attended Lowell Schools and was a 1940 graduate of Lowell High School.
During World War II, Mr. Desmond served his country in the United States Navy achieving the rank of Specialist Second Class. While serving in the Navy, he attended William College in Williamstown, MA and also attended Flight School at Lenoir-Rhyme College in Hickory, NC. Following his Service Time, Mr. Desmond was employed for many years as a Supervisor for New England Telephone Co. He retired in 1981.
After retirement, he and his late wife Georgette moved to Brewster, MA. He moved back to the area two years ago making his home in Chelmsford. Mr. Desmond was a member of the Telephone Workers Pioneers of America, the American Legion Posts in both Lowell and Orleans, the Lowell Lodge of Elks #87 and the Disabled American Veterans, Edith North Rogers Post #25. While in the Lowell area, Mr. Desmond attended the Immaculate Conception Church.
He is survived by a son and daughter in law, William J. Desmond III and his wife Brenda of Shelton, CT; two daughters and sons in law, Nancy Desmond Wilder and her husband Gary of Brewster, MA and Joan Burke and her husband Robert of Andover; six grandchildren, Erin Shaw, Dana Desmond Vasquez, Carianne Theron, Amy Wilder, Mary and Emily Burke; five great grandchildren, Wesley Shaw, Madison and Mackenzie Vasquez, Jack and Sam Theron; a brother, Cornelius Desmond of Lowell; two sisters, Patricia Sullivan of PA and Mary Castle of FL and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late John J. Desmond and Lucille Taylor.
DESMOND-Relatives and friends may call on Friday Dec 18, from 4 until 7 pm at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 NESMITH ST. (Rte.38). His Funeral Prayers will be offered Saturday Dec.19 at 10 am at the Funeral Home followed by burial in St. Patrick Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701. Arrangements are by the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, LOWELL.
