Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Barbara J. (Barr) Williams, 80, of Sheedy Park, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Tuesday, December 15, 2009.
Born in Gloucester on September 19, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Newton E. and Elizabeth Marguerite (White) Barr. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and attended Gloucester public schools.
She was employed as an assembler for twenty-seven years at the former LePages, having retired in 1997.
Barbara enjoyed playing Pokeno, doing crafts and knitting, but especially loved attending her grandchildren’s activities. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and a caring, loving grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia L. and Robert D. Tobey of Gloucester, Catherine E. and Michael E. Slaven of Salem, a son and daughter-in-law, Russell D. and Sung-Ja (Parks) Williams of Litchfield, NH, seven grandchildren, Laura (Porter), wife of Leonard Roaen, Jeannine (Porter), wife of Helder Silva, Eric, husband of Karen Tobey, Jennifer (Tobey), wife of Theodore Christ, Sae-Hee Williams, Jin-Hee Williams, Gabriel Williams and seven great-grandchildren, Amanda and Andrew Silva, Brian, Annie and Gracie Tobey, Nathaniel Christ, Timothy Prentiss and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her infant son, Robert Williams, a daughter, Deborah (Williams) Luther, two grandchildren, Wendy and David Porter and a brother, Norman “Buddy” Barr, her former husband, Russell Williams and grandparents, Ernest and Catherine White and a nephew, Paul Dorothy
Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 - 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Committal services will be held privately in the Beechbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
