Dewey Denton Kirkland

Dewey Denton Kirkland, 76, of Summerville, died Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Hospice Center of Charleston.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 11 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville. Burial will follow at Adams Run Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy. 165. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 o’clock at the funeral home.

Mr. Kirkland was born June 28, 1933 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Rev. Joel D. Kirkland and Sally Hursey Kirkland. He served in the Army National Guard and retired as a truck driver with Spartan Express. He was a member of Heritage Holiness Church.

Survivors include three daughters and three sons: Ivy K. McIver (Forde) of Ravenel, Dewey L. Kirkland (Kathy) of Ravenel, Donald L. Kirkland (Debbie) or Ravenel, Cheryl K. Swain (Jack) of Hollywood, Tammy K. Inabinett (Mark) of Hollywood and Phillip M. Kirkland (April) of North Charleston, eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter; Kimberly Swain.
