Violet I. (Haesaert) Quintal died on Dec. 8, 2009 at the St. Vincent de Paul Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Berlin, NH. She was born in Belchertown, MA, the daughter of the late Marie (Rimbold) and Paul Haesaert. Violet enjoyed life on the farm in Belchertown. After high school, she worked in knitting mills and shoe shops. Later, she worked for General Glass Co. in Springfield, MA as a secretary for 20 years, and waitresses for Chateau Provost, a catering business in Chicopee, MA. She was president, and then treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 337.
She was a communicant of St. Rose de Lima parish in Chicopee for over 40 years.
After retiring to Florida in 1978, Vi worked for Gary’s Glass Co. and was treasurer for the Coconut Grove Estates in Naples, FL. She volunteered at the soup kitchen for migrant workers in Immokalee, FL. While in FL, she was a communicant at St. William’s Church. She loved cooking, gardening and sewing.
She is survived by her daughters: Jacqueline of Milan, NH, Irene Grotchen and her husband Gunther of Switzerland and Theresa Malone and her husband Charles of Chicopee, MA. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren: CMD Shawn Malone and his wife Heather of Springfield, VA, Carrie Rivera and her husband Chris of Raleigh, NC, Christina Steinegger, Susan Grotchen, and Robert and his wife Giulia, all of Switzerland. Violet also leaves five great grandchildren: Samantha Steinegger, Samantha and Madison Malone, Olivia Rivera, and Joshua and Nicholas Grotchen.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert after 56 years of marriage. She is also predeceased by her sisters and brothers: Blanche, Rose, Madeline Taylor, Lillian Kane, Dorothy Frew, Emil and George.
SERVICES: St. Pierre-Phaneuf Funeral Home on Dale Street, Chicopee, MA is in charge of the arrangements. Friends and relatives may call at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Funeral Home on Dec. 15, 09 from 9 - 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM at St. Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee, MA. Burial in St. Rose Cemetery will take place following the mass.
