Martha Carol Reasons Whitsett, 71 passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at her residence in Oakland, MS. She was born in Maury City, TN to the late John Harris Reasons and Nettie V. Castleman Reasons. She was a member of Sylva Rena Baptist Church, MS Homemakers Volunteers of Yalobusha and Tallahatchie Counties. Carol was a passionate member of the Order of the Eastern Star and belonged to the Hernando and Water Valley Lodges. She was an avid traveler and co-founder of Insulation and Refractories Services, Inc. of Memphis.
A visitation will be held Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 1 to 3 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 12 Noon at the Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue with Bro. Gene Howell and Bro. Charles Boyd, Sr. officiating. A visitation will begin at 10 AM until service time. The committal will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens on Raleigh LaGrange Road with Harold Perry, Robert Royal, Steven Lovell, Paul Williams, Freddie Veteto, and Frank B. Brooks serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Whitsett is survived by her husband, John G. Whitsett of Oakland, MS; a son, John W. Whitsett and wife, Kathey of Horn Lake, MS; a daughter, Denise Whitsett of Memphis, TN; two sisters, Sheila Gholson and Shirley Magner, both of Kennett, MO; three grandchildren, Lindy Edwards, Brooke Berry, and Elizabeth Berry; and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
