Obituary

WHALEN, Charlotte J. (Aitken)of Brackett Street in Quincy, died peacefully at age 84 on Saturday, December 5th 2009; at the Colonial Nursing Home in Weymouth. The eldest of 5 children she was the daughter of the late Jeanette (Seaverns) and Clifford Aitken. Charlotte was often helping to take care of her sisters and brother when growing up. As a young woman, Charlotte worked for the Brookline Bank and Trust as head teller. The beloved mother of Stephen Whalen and his wife Carol of Quincy and Michelle Whalen Blomster and her husband Dana of Ipswich, she worked part time at Remick’s of Quincy. She was a fabulous cook, and subsequently went to work for the Archdiocese of Boston working at the South African Mission Fathers’ rectory preparing daily meals for the many missionaries that called SMA in Dedham their home. She retired and enjoyed spending time with her dear sisters, Betty Rankin of Canton, Nancy Leary of Abington, and Carol Tucker of Harwichport. Once retired, she found pleasure in time spent with her family and many friends; she enjoyed bingo, bus trips, shopping and the movies. Charlotte is survived by her grandchildren Kathryn and Justin Whalen, and Kyle and Ryan Blomster.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Tuesday 4 PM - 8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 12:30 PM. Burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, Boston.
