Charles E. Avilla, 62

Dateline: Attleboro, MA

Charles E. Avilla, 62, of Attleboro formerly of Norton passed away on Saturday November 28, 2009 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved companion for the past 12 years of Jean L. Hastie with whom he made his home.
Born in Taunton, MA on June 24, 1947 he was a son of the late Manuel Avilla and Charlotte S. (Westgate) Wedmore.
Charlie grew up in Norton, was educated in Norton public schools and was a graduate of Norton High School.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Avilla was employed for eight years at Attleboro High School where he served as a Senior Custodian. He had previously worked at Midway Garage in Norton for 25 years. He started out at Midway as a mechanic, working his way up to retire as the companies Service Manager.
An avid NASCAR fan, Charlie was also an accomplished clog dancer and enjoyed the simple pleasures of watching cartoons with his grandson Joshua. He had made his home in Attleboro for the past 11 years and was a former longtime resident of Norton.
In addition to his beloved companion Jean, he is survived by her devoted daughters Kim Rabbitt, Lisa Jurgilewicz and Shellie Tennant. He is also survived by Lester Conners of Norton whom he loved as a father. He was the brother of Robert Avilla of Berkley and Darlene Stanley of Attleboro and is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and several nieces and nephews including Danielle Stanley.
Graveside funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday December 1st at 1:30 P.M. at the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Plain St. Norton.
Visiting hours will be held prior to services on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
In lieu of flowers, Charlie’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to Attleboro High School 100 Rathbun Willard Drive Attleboro, MA 02703 for the purpose of school scholarships.
