Mary A. (Cruz) Easton, 91, of New Bedford died Thursday November 26, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late John R. Easton.
Born in Mt. Vernon, CT, the daughter of the late Pedro N. and Juliana A. (Alianora) Cruz, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Easton was formerly employed as a waitress at the Wamsutta Club, and later was a foster grandparent for Coastline Elderly.
She was a Past President and member of the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Auxiliary and a member of the Cape Verdean Retirees Club.
Survivors include four daughters, Maryann Easton and Donna Whitehead, both of New Bedford, Loretta Banks and Karen Easton, both of California; her siblings, Izidora C. Vincent, John P. Cruz, and Antone P. Cruz, all of New Bedford; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Jacqueline Easton and John R. Easton, Jr., and the sister of the late Dennis P. Cruz, Joseph Cruz, Antonia Cruz, Rose Cruz and Matthew "Sonny" Bento.
Her Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Visiting hours are omitted.
