Mattapoisett - Joan W. Andersen, 66, died at home Friday August 29, 2003 after a long Illness. She was the wife of L. Bryce Andersen; they were married 42 years.
Born in Brockton, Ma., she was the daughter of the Reverand Horace F. Westwood of North Dartmouth, Ma. and the late Virginia (Boyd) Westwood and was the sister of the late Wallis Westwood.
Joan was a graduate of Tufts University. She was an active member at the First Unitarian Church of New Bedford and often sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Sippican Choral Society, past member of the United States Coast Guard Auxillary Flotilla 67, and past member of the Community Center for Non-Violence. She served 9 years as a trustee for the Mattapoisett Public Library and was past treasurer for the Mattapoisett Public Library Inc. A Life member of the League of Women Voters, past board member League of Women Voters of Massachusetts and board member League of Women Voters of Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester from 1980 to 2003.
Survivors include her widower and her father. Two children; Elizabeth (Betsy) Andersen-Gilreath of Mattapoisett and Christopher F. Andersen of Fairhaven. Also sister in-law Teresa Westwood-Smith of Atlanta, Ga. Son in-law Duaine and daughter in-law Sharon, four grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday October 19, 2003 at 1:00 PM at the First Unitarian Church of New Bedford.
