Obituary

WAYLAND: Virginia R. “Ginny” (Ciampa) Whitman, 94, died peacefully in the comfort of her family on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 following an illness of several months.
She was born in Boston on October 8, 1915 the daughter of the late Lawrence Ciampa and Josephine (Bucci) Ciampa.
Mrs. Whitman is survived by her devoted and loving daughter Jo-Ann Whitman Lanzafane and her husband James C. Lanzafane of Framingham. She was the beloved and cherished grandmother of Jay G. Lanzafane and Justin J. Lanzafane both of Framingham. Also survived by her dearest and closest friend since first grade Rose Gates of Medford as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the wife of the late John W. Whitman who died in July of 1978. Sister of the late Nicholas Ciampa, Philomena Mistretta, Louis Ciampa, John Ciampa, Rita Camerario and Lawrence Ciampa.
Ginny has been a resident of Wayland for the past 8 years and spent most of her life in Medford. She was a graduate of Medford High School. In her earlier years she was a stitcher for Brine of Boston and for many years as a Sales Associate in the jewelry department for Gilchrist’s of Boston. She as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for her daughter Jo-Ann and for many years was a member of the Womens Auxillary of DAV, Chapter 27 of Somerville. She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed spending time with friends and being with people especially while visiting the Callahan Senior Center, Ginny delighted in the activities and social functions at the Cochituate Village Apartments. Her greatest accomplishment was her family whom she spent her life devoted to especially her two grandsons. Ginny was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan and also spent tine of the sideline cheering on her grandsons who played baseball and hockey. She enjoyed traveling with her daughter and family to New Hampshire and the Cape and Sunday dinners. She will be greatly missed by all the lives that she touched in her 94 years.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at 9:00 am followed by her Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am at St. Zepherin Church, 99 Main St (Route 27), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Whitman family lot in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
