Obituary

William A. Wells,retired Brockton Firefighter, 83 years old of Brockton passed away Tuesday November 24, 2009 at Good Samaritan Medical Center after a period of failing health for several years. He was the husband of Therese (Charlebois) Wells. He was born in Taunton on November 30, 1925 and moved to Brockton as a young boy. He was the son of the late Arthur T. and Elizabeth H. (Megan) Wells. He was a Brockton Firefighter for 34 years and served on Squad A for most of those years. Bill was very proud of his profession and served the City of Brockton well.
He attended Brockton Schools and entered the Navy on July 16, 1943 and served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Nields as a gunner’s mate during WWII and received commendations from the United States and Russia for participating in the operation to the Murmansk Run. He also served on the U.S.S. Soubarison before being discharged from his four years of service and was honorably discharged on March 20, 1946. Bill was a member of the VFW Post 697 in Whitman. Bill and Tess enjoyed spending time with their family and traveling, especially their time at the Chalet in New Hampshire and their winter home in New Port Richey, Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren… bringing many to visit the Brockton Fire Stations and spending time with the kids at the Brockton Fair.

Beside Tess, his wife of 62 years, he leaves four children, Kathleen DeGrassie and her husband John of Salisbury, NH; Nancy Abrams and her husband Roy of East Bridgewater; William Jr. and his wife Jane of Plymouth and Ms. Jane Wells of Brockton, his grandchildren, Jennifer Bent and Julie Gaudette both of NH; Aaron Abrams of Buckeye, AZ; Adam Abrams of E. Bridgewater, Amanda Staiti of Abington; Thomas, Andrew and Jillian Wells all of Plymouth and great grandchildren, Matthew and Katharine Bent, Kinley and Nolan Gaudette, Tyler and Carrington Staiti, Isabella Abrams and Benjamin Abrams.

Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Saturday at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
