Matilde H. Vega, 83, of Derry, NH, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in the Derry Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Derry. Mrs. Vega was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador on June 3, 1926, a daughter of the late Celso and Elvira (Guerrero) Guzman. She was a resident of Derry for the past three years, formerly living in Lawrence, MA. Mrs. Vega immigrated from Ecuador, and had worked in Lawrence, MA in the shoe industry. She later worked for AT & T, and retired from Lucent Technologies in 1995. She had been a member of Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence.
She is survived by her husband, Carlos Vega of Derry; two sons, Carlos E. Vega and his wife Susan of Derry, and Fernando Vega and his wife Diana of Miami, FL; six grandchildren, Michelle Solis, Jennifer Campion, Danny Vega, Tony Vega, Xavier Vega, and Sofia Vega; two great grandchildren; her half sister, Alejandrina Ortiz of Ecuador; her sister-in-law, Gilma Guzman of Orlando, FL; as well as several sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were private at the request of the family. The burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry handled the arrangements.
