Obituary

Joseph E. Vercellin, age 85, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at Lowell General Hospital after a short illness surrounded by his loving family. For 56 years, he was the beloved husband of the late Therese G. (Labbe) Vercellin who died in 2004.

He was born in Lowell on Jan. 29, 1924, a son of the late Joseph and Marie (Roux) Vercellin. Joseph was a lifelong resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell and a communicant of the former Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Parish. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII having served with the 142nd Heavy Ordinance Company in France, Belgium and Germany.

Prior to his retirement, Joseph was employed as a machine operator with General Electric in Lowell for 40 years.

Among his many interests, he enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, going to antique car shows and trips to Canada and Florida. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife to various Army reunions that were held anywhere east of the Mississippi. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Robert and Louise (Soucy) Vercellin of Windham, NH, Diane and Paul Guerin of Lowell and Paul and Michele (Bureau) Vercellin of Dracut; his nine grandchildren, Peter Vercellin and his wife Lisa, and David Vercellin, all of Chicago, IL, Katharine Abbott and her husband Matthew of Keene, NH, and Amy Vercellin of Brighton, Jonathan Guerin of San Francisco, CA, Jennifer Searles and her husband Justin of Tyngsboro, Michael Vercellin and his wife Meaghan of Revere, Neil Vercellin of New York, NY and Nicole Vercellin of Dracut; three great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lucas Vercellin of Chicago, IL and Kasen Abbott of Keene, NH; also several nieces and nephews and many close friends. He was the brother of the late Albert Vercellin.

Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Friday, Nov. 27 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish - Ste. Therese Church, Dracut. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
