In Taunton, November 22, 2009, Helen (Gonzalski) Quigley died at home peacefully while surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Sgargowicz) Gonzalski and wife of the late Robert L. Quigley. Helen was born in East Taunton , attended Caswell School and graduated from Taunton High School, class of 1940. After high school, she attended Bristol County Business School evenings while working days at General Electric. This is where she met her future husband Bob Quigley. After Robert returned from serving in World War II, they were married at Holy Family Church, June 1, 1946. Between 1948 and 1964, they had 6 children and Helen was a stay at home Mom. When the youngest child started school, Helen began working as secretary for John D. Latimer Assoc., Architect of the Taunton High School. Later she worked for Taunton State Hospital as a receptionist evenings, she also worked as secretary of the Taunton Board of Appeals from 1966 to 1984. Also on January 20, 1957, five hundred women, chaired by Helen Quigley went house to house in Taunton March of Dimes campaign to solicit funds for fight against Polio. Helen was the proud mother of her six college educated children ; Maureen A. Richardson, Thomas R. Quigley, Eileen M. Crochiere, Peter J. Quigley, Kevin J. Quigley and the late James M. Quigley. She also was the foster mother of her nephew James Flannery. She was the loving grandmother of five; Kyle O. Quigley, Evan R. Crochiere, Briana M. Quigley, Ryan R. Quigley, Connor R. Quigley and great grandmother of Alexis M. Crochiere. Through the years, Helen has been involved with the reunion Committee of the THS Class of 40. She was a member of the Red Hatters and Weir Seniors. For many years Helen volunteered in the Morton Hospital Pastoral Care office and during the last six years was a Eucharistic Minister at the Hospital. Among her hobbies were gardening, sewing and painting but her first love was her family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church on Friday, November 27th at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Wednesday from 3-7pm. at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St. in Taunton. Interment will be in the family lot in St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton.
