JEAN (DeFOREST) KURTZ, a Hingham resident for the past 45 years, died on Tuesday, Aug. 11th, 2009 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She was 82. Mrs. Kurtz was born in Quincy, was1944 graduate of Milton Academy and a 1948 graduate of Mr. Holyoke College. She also completed graduate studies at Long Beach State College in California, Rutgers University in New Jersey and Boston University. A teacher by profession, Mrs. Kurtz taught in California, New Jersey and prior to her retirement was associated for 22 years with the Hingham Public School System. She had many interests and was an involved member of the Hingham Historical Society, the Hingham Yacht Club, the Neighborhood Club of Quincy, The South Shore Mt. Holyoke Club, the Pioneer Valley Antique Dealers Assoc., the Retired Officers' Club, So. Weymouth Naval Air Station and the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Hingham.
She leaves her husband, Robert H. Kurtz of Hingham; and daughter, Robin Kurtz Miyamoto and her husband Keith of Topinabee, MI. She was the sister of Stuart S. DeForest of Hingham and the late Samuel D. DeForest, Jr. Also survived by 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 28th at 11 AM at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043 In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Church of St. John the Evangelist or the Hingham Historical Society, PO Box 434, Hingham, MA 02043.
