Abel Matias Aguiar “Tio Abel”, age 78 of Fall River, passed away Nov. 18, 2009 at home, surrounded by his beloved children and grandchildren. Husband of Maria Laurinda (Carvalho) Aguiar for 51 years. Born in Santo Antonio, Alem Capelas, Sao Miguel, Azores, son of the late Jacinto Matias Aguiar and Maria Conceicao (Cabral) Aguiar. He was a member of St. Michael Church.
Besides his wife of Fall River, he is survived by 8 Children: Grace Alves of Fall River; Dulce Faria of Riverside, RI; Francisco Xavier Aguiar of Fall River; Sergio D. Aguiar of Fall River; Marie LaSalette Mello of Somerset; John Brito Aguiar of Fall River; Lori D. Diogo of Fall River; and Cheryl Estrella of Assonet. 4 Siblings: Antonio Aguiar of Argentina, Adrianna Aguiar of Azores, Eulalia Oliveira of Canada, and Marcia Aguiar of Fall River. 10 Grandchildren & many nieces & nephews. He was also the brother of the late Manuel and Jacinto Aguiar, and Theresa Camara.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St. Saturday at 8:00AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael Church at 9:00AM. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 4-8 PM.
