Zoe W. (Washington) Fabio, 84, of New Bedford died Monday November 16, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of the late Milton and Irttle (Handley) Washington, she lived in Springfield before moving to New Bedford in 1958.
She was a member of the Union Baptist Church.
Mrs. Fabio was formerly employed as a principal employment counselor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Employment Security for many years until her retirement in 1984.
Mrs. Fabio was the former President of the New Bedford Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and a former member of the City of New Bedford Human Relations Commission. She was a member of the Martha Briggs Educational Club, the Business and Professional Associates, and Westerly Associates.
Survivors include three children, John R. Arrington and his wife Angela of Burlington, CT, Constance R. Hubbard and her husband Bruce of Stamford, CT, and Susan F. Adams and her husband Gary of Alexandria, VA; and four grandchildren, Jeremy R. Arrington, Shea M. Cabral, Ruth Arrington Hubbard and Caroline Benning Hubbard.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9 AM at the Union Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 5-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com
