Obituary


Alice Ruth Zinsmeister (nee Taylor) passed away in her sleep on November 14, 2009. She lived a full life of 93 years. A second-generation American of English descent, Alice was born on June 19, 1916 to Helen and Stephen A. Taylor of City Island, New York. Alice attended school and worked most of her life in Manhattan. In 1939, she married Jacob Zinsmeister (1912 – 1963) and continued to reside on City Island, NY. Together they had a son, William Stephen Zinsmeister, who was born on October 31, 1943 and died on August 3, 2002.

In 1956, Alice and her family moved to the Village of Mohawk, NY and became long-term residents. Alice worked as an executive assistant for clothing manufacturer Duofold. She was active in the local women’s business community and with Blessed Sacrament Church. She spent her summers on Cape Cod with family and friends.

In 1995, Alice moved to Londonderry, NH to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law. She became an active member of the Londonderry Seniors club. In 2003, Alice moved to Derry, NH and was an active resident at the Nutfield Heights community. Alice experienced a very rich, independent, and fortunate life. She attended both of her grandsons’ weddings. She enjoyed and regularly attended the Boston Pops concerts. She celebrated her 90th birthday with her family on the shores of Maine. Alice also played an active role in the first three years of her great grandson’s life.

Alice is survived by her daughter-in-law, Peggy Anne Zinsmeister of Litchfield, NH and by her two grandsons, Michael Theodore and his wife Katie of Clifton, NJ and William S. and his wife Shannon of Saint Paul, MN. She is also survived by her great grandson, Liam Thomas of Saint Paul, MN. We will miss you, Grandma.

Calling hours were held on Tuesday, November 17th from 9 AM – 10 AM at Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A Mass of Christian burial followed at 11:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Alice was laid to rest next to her husband at Mohawk Cemetery, Mohawk, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Care Givers of Greater Derry, 58 East Broadway, Derry, NH 03038.
