Obituary

GLOUCESTER: John C. White, 74, died Sunday, November 8, 2009 in the company of his children after a brief illness at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Born in Boston on July 14, 1935, he was the son of the late Charles P. White Sr. and Lucia P. (Nowell) White.
After having been a lifelong summer resident of Gloucester at his parents’ home at Bass Rocks, he opted to become a fulltime resident a little over 30 years ago. John graduated from Colorado College in 1957 and obtained a degree in architecture from the Boston Architecture Center in 1963. Not specializing in one area of design, his work includes home, schools, office buildings and hospitals in a variety of states and Canada. Not long into his career he was a recipient of the Boston Society of Architects Award in 1961.
He claimed to be a huge fan of “the way things used to be” and would often be seen driving thru Gloucester in one of his old cars. Besides keeping busy with his old cars his interests focused on debating issues, getting together with friends and helping out those people closest to him.
John is survived by two children, a daughter, Lucia A. White of Aruba, a son, Paul J. White of Chicago, IL and three grandchildren, Aaron Martes of Aruba, Sean and Samuel White of Chicago. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Robert N. White and Charles P. White Jr.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 in the Independent Christian Church, Unitarian Universalist, Middle Street, Gloucester at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
