William F. Thompson 83 years old of South Easton died Wednesday November 4, 2009 surrounded by his family at his home after a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Carol A. (Bergeron)(Crealese) Thompson. He had been a resident of South Easton for the past 26 years and previously had lived in Dover, MA for many years.
Bill was born and raised in Waterbury, CT a son of the late Michael and Nora (Dowling) Thompson. During WW II he proudly served in the US Marine Corps 3rd Division in the Pacific Theatre. He was involved in many historic battles including Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Bill received his bachelor’s degree from Hilliard College now the University of Hartford. He had worked as a consultant and controller in the food, flooring and construction industries.
Bill was an avid golfer and a member and past president of the Walpole Country Club. He had been a longtime member of the American Legion in Dover, MA. Bill will be remembered by all for his wit and charm.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Sharon Coryelle of Florida, William Thompson, Jr., of Kentucky, Colleen Thompson of Idaho, Patricia Barksdale of Missouri, Thomas Thompson of Hadley, MA, Jim Thompson of New Hampshire, Barbara Dery of Idaho, Sheila Thompson of Colorado, Michael Crealese of Stoughton, Steven Crealese of No. Carolina and Gina Crealese of Bridgewater. He leaves 10 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and was the brother of Michael Thompson of Waterbury, CT and the late Jack and Peg Greggis .
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 9 am. Funeral Mass in Holy Cross Church , 225 Purchase St., South Easton, MA at 10am.
