Funeral from the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday at 12 pm. Funeral Service at 1:30pm. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Obituary Information
Mr. Ottaviani died Sunday at the Guardian Center, Brockton, after a brief illness. Born in East Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Domenic and Antoinette (Ottaviani) Ottaviani, and had been a resident of Brockton since 1941, formerly living in Stoughton.
Before WWII he served in the Mass 26th YD Division, Battery A 101st Field Artillery. During WWII he served in the US Army with Battery A 433d Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion. He held seven campaign stars having served in Sicily, Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
He held the American Defense Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. Following the war he was employed by the former Littlefield Wyman Nursery in Abington. A few years later he formed his own business, the Hillside Nursery and Landscape Company in Bridgewater. At the same time he was custodian of Temple Israel, and its school in Brockton. He was forced to retire at the age of 60 years because of injuries received in WWII. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 32 and VFW Post 1046, a member of Amvets, American Legion Post 35, Italian American Veterans and an active retired member of the National Guard. He was inducted into the Presidents American Hall of Fame and enrolled on its honor roll.
He enjoyed gardening and music.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Angelina “Ann” (Piesco) Ottaviani, two sisters Yolanda ((Fruci) Johnson of Taunton and Phyllis (Westerlund) Kendrick of Wilkesboro, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Anita Colaneri, Helen DiPasquale, Violet Piesco, Julia Zupka, Rose Morency, and John and Albert Gregory.
